Nutritional Yeast – How to Store and Where to Buy

Nutritional yeast is an ingredient that I like to use in raw food recipes. Nutritional yeast has a nice cheesy, creamy texture when combined correctly with other raw food ingredients.

When using nutritional yeast in raw food recipes, it’s best to use nutritional yeast flakes.

Nutritional yeast should be kept in a tightly sealed container. I like to keep my nutritional yeast in a tightly sealed mason jar in my pantry.

It’s best to buy in small batches because it can lose flavor over time. I discard my nutritional yeast if it’s been on my shelf for four months or so. Nutritional yeast is rather inexpensive and I buy it in bulk in small batches so I don’t mind tossing out a few dollars worth of nutritional yeast if it has gotten stale.

When following The Raw Food Diet Plan, we use less than 3 cups in the first month. One of my favorite recipes that calls for nutritional yeast is raw “cheese” sauce. This raw cheese sauce is also used in my raw macaroni and cheese recipe.

When doing my grocery shopping, I tend to buy approximately 2 cups of nutritional yeast at a time. I buy my nutritional yeast at my local bulk food retailer.

I advocate buying foods locally when you can get them locally. If you’re wondering where to get nutritional yeast, I recommend opening up your phone book and calling your local health food stores and food stores that have large bulk sections.

However, if you are unable to buy nutritional yeast flakes locally you can purchase it online at various retailers.
